Another warm and sunny day, I hit the range for 6PM and opted for a large bucket (72 balls) and planned to record 70, meaning I only got two warm-up shots before I began scoring. This forced a ‘course-like’ mentality where I got two swings, then it was on. I was able to get off to a strong start, hitting 4 of 5 SW’s on target.
SW (+3): I hit 7 of 10 SW shots on target, missing one left and two right (+3). I was happy that I eliminated the blades that I struggled with yesterday, and hit each ball a more consistent distance, unfortunately unknown distance since the first marker isn’t until 100 yards, but I expect around 70. The key will be to continue hitting my PW a consistent distance so I can trust it on the course.
GW (+11): I hit 12 of 20 shots on target, pulling three left, pushing two right (+5) and blading three (+6). This was a nice improvement over yesterday, and I felt my on-target shots were well hit with good trajectory, consistently travelling 80 to 90 yards. This is a new club for me as my previous set only had SW and PW, so am excited to get more consistent and implement it into my game.
PW (+14): I hit 11 of 20 shots on target, pulled two left, pushed two right (+4), and blading five (+10). The positive is that my ball flight was much straighter than the previous day which was consistently left to right. The negative was the significant increase in bladed shots which are especially perilous when around the green. I would much rather miss my PW left or right than blade it through the green, so eliminating blades will be a continued area of focus in future range sessions.
9-iron (+7): I was very happy with the way I hit my 9-iron today with 13 of 20 on target, pulling three left and pushing four right (+7). I was quite happy not to blade any of my shots and to have a fairly consistent shot shape with distance ranging from 120 to 140 yards. I also reduced the number up pulls, with my misses being a mix of left and right (not sure if I see this is a positive).
Overall, I was happy with the way I hit the ball, especially considering I only allowed myself two warm-up shots. I have a busy workday tomorrow so will be taking the day off golf, but will still plan to hit a few balls at the net in my condo, then am planning to hit the range for the next three days before hitting two difference courses on Sunday and Monday.
