After a long work week, I went to the range on Friday night and was distracted by several work calls attempting to close out the week. As a result, I never got into a groove, and after my fourth call in less than 10 minutes, I decided not to track my shots, but instead use the range session as a sort of ‘wind down’ after a busy week at work. Overall, I was fairly happy with the way I was hitting the ball, though I did have a more pronounced fade that with my low irons began to look more like a slice that I’ll keep an eye on.
The one highlight of the session was my chipping. I hit approximately 50 chips from various spots around the green, and was encouraged by the trajectory that I got on my flop shots. One of my biggest challenges when flopping the ball in the past was the dreaded blade, so I would often under swing and leave the ball well short of my target. With my improved ability to elevate the ball, I’m more confident in going after my targets and less likely to leave the ball short. In future sessions, I’ll aim to incorporate more bump and run shots with my pitching wedge, as to date I have primarily practiced flop shots with my SW.
