Range 11: 5, 6, 7, PW (60%)

After two disappointing rounds over the long weekend, I was back on the range this afternoon to work on the long irons that plagued my game. I had a difficult start, hitting just 13 of my first 30 long iron shots on target, but then made a small adjustment to how I was addressing the ball, hitting 22 of my final 30 shots on target. Overall, I was happy with the trajectory and distance that I was hitting the ball by the end of the days session.

PW (+13): I was happy to hit 13 of 20 shots on target with my PW, but when I missed, I missed badly, hitting just two right (+2), and blading an uncharacteristic 5 of 20 PW shots. My PW has been one of my most consistent clubs both on the range and the course, so I will consider todays lackluster performance as a one-off and look to improve in my next session.

7-iron (+10): I hit 11 of 20 shots on target with my 7-iron, pulling three left (+3), pushing five right (+5), and blading one (+2). I was happy with the trajectory of my shots, but again had a more pronounced left-to-right flight path than usual, which caused me to miss my target on multiple occasions. This is an aspect of my game that I want to figure out, as when I don’t have this left-to-right path, I tend to pull the ball left which risks going out of bounds on the course.

6-iron (+12): I also hit 11 of 20 on target with my 6-iron, pulling one left (+1), pushing five right (+5), and blading three (+6). Like my 7-iron, I had major left-to-right ball movement in the air which I struggled to dial in, regularly ending up right of the target. While I don’t mind having a fade on my irons, I need to get more consistent with it so I can better aim my shots on the course and avoid the big miss.

5-iron (+9): my 5-iron was my best club on the day, hitting 13 of 20 on target, pushing five right (+5), and blading two (+4). Like my other long irons, I seemed to be cutting across the ball with my 5-iron, having a pronounced left to right ball path which I struggled to dial in. Apart from the left-to-right movement, I was happy with the trajectory and distance I was getting with my 5-iron.

Overall, it was an average session at the range. While I took a step back from 63% to a 60% on target percentage, I was also hitting the three most challenging clubs that I’m practicing currently (5-iron, 6-iron, 7-iron). I was happy with my distance and trajectory on the ball, though will monitor my flight path as I seem to be developing a bit of a slice on my long irons.
