Range 14: SW to 9 (62%)

After focusing on my long irons for the past three range sessions, I returned to my wedges and short irons today, having a pretty good outing. Most notably, the flight trajectory and distance of my shots was more consistent than in previous sessions, something that will benefit me greatly on the course if I can maintain it. One of the challenges that I’ve had with short irons on the course is the variance in distance, and todays range session seemed to be a good improvement in the level of consistency.

SW (E): the highlight of the day, I hit all 5 of my SW shots with good trajectory directly on target. Continuing to improve my short irons will allow me to get up and down more regularly, something that will vastly improve my scoring on the course.

GW (+8): I hit 8 of 15 shots on target with my GW, pulling four to the left (+4), pushing two to the right (+2), and blading one (+2). Ideally I would like to hit 75%+ of my wedges on target, but I was encouraged by the consistency in the flight path and trajectory, simply lining up further left than necessary on several shots.

PW (+9): I hit 8 of 15 shots on target with my PW, pulling four to the left (+4), pushing one to the right (+1), blading one (+2), and chunking one (+2). Similar to my GW, I was happy with the way I was hitting the ball, but seemed to be lined up to the left of the target consistently, forcing me to miss on that side. This may be a result of my tendency to hit my long irons left-to-right, something I’ll have to adjust for with my wedges and short irons that tend to travel on a straighter trajectory.

9-iron (+6): behind my SW which was perfect on the day, my 9-iron was my next best club, hitting 10 of 15 on target, pulling one left (+1), pushing three right (+3), and blading one (+2). I was very happy with my performance on the day, hitting several balls within a few feet of the flag that I was aiming for.

Overall, I was happy with the way that I hit my wedges and short irons today, getting good trajectory and hitting the ball relatively straight. My goal for future sessions will be to hit 70%+ with these clubs, and todays session was a good step in the direction to achieving this goal. Once I gain mastery of my short irons, I will place increased emphasis on my long irons, and begin practicing my driver at the range.
