Range 15: SW, 9, 7, 5 (63%)

On todays session, I opted to work on four clubs that I’ve had challenges with during recent rounds and range sessions. Aside from my 5-iron which I again struggled with, I was happy with the way I hit the ball today.

SW (+3): I hit 12 of 15 shots on target with my SW, pulling two to the left (+2), and pushing one to the right (+1). Overall, I was happy with the consistency in trajectory and distance, and felt todays session was a clear sign that I’m getting more comfortable with my wedges.

9-iron (+7): I hit 9 of 15 shots on target with my 9-iron, pulling four to the left (+4) pushing one to the right (+1), and blading one (+2). My major takeaway is that I was hitting the ball incredibly high in the air with a very slight left-to-right fade. With a high flight and only one of fifteen bladed, I felt today was one of my best sessions with my 9-iron yet.

7-iron (+8): I hit 10 of 15 shots on target with my 7-iron, pulling two to the left (+2), and blading three (+6). Like my 9-iron, I was hitting the ball far in the air with a slight fade, and if it hadn’t been for the three shots that I bladed, I would have been quite happy with the way I was hitting my 7-iron on the day, seemingly reducing the left-to-right flight path I’ve been struggling with.

5-iron (+8): I once again struggled with my 5-iron today, hitting just 7 of 15 on target, pulling three to the left (+3), and pushing five to the right (+5). My struggles with my left-to-right ball movement continued with the 5-iron, at times slicing right off the target line, and other times adjusting my stance to left of my target, then hitting the ball dead straight. My inconsistency with my 5-iron remains one of my largest opportunities to improve my game.

Overall I was encouraged with the way I was hitting my short irons, but continued to struggle with my 5-iron. With my not hitting my driver off the tee currently, improvement in my 5-iron, along with continued focus on my putting and chipping, represent the largest opportunities for reducing my scores on the course.
