Round 9: Toronto Golf (46)

Todays round was a treat, getting to play one of the nicest golf courses in Canada. While I played the ‘Watson’, a 9-hole, par 30 course, as opposed to the main track, it was still a great time. I can easily say I have never played a course so well manicured in my life.

Putting: I took a while to adjust to the quick speed of the greens, knocking several putts well past the hole.

Chipping: apart from a blow-up on the 8th where I took three chips to finally reach the green, I was happy with the way I chipped. My flops tended to be a bit long, but that was more the product of faster greens than anything. I had a very nice bump and run on the par three 6th hole which allowed me to get up and down for one of my three pars on the day.

Short irons (SW to 8): with six par 3’s on the 9-hole course, I got a lot of practice with my short irons. Apart from a toed 7-iron off the tee at the par three 4th hole which led to a triple bogey, I struck the ball well, with my main misses being to the left of the green due to an alignment problem.

Long irons (5 to 7): my long irons were a struggle on the day, especially my 5-iron off the tee. I played significantly better on the six par 3 holes (+8), than I did on the three par 4 holes (+8), primarily due to my inability to advance the ball with my 5 and 6 irons. This is clearly a flaw in my game, and something I will work on.

Overall, it was incredible to get out to such a beautiful and well-manicured course. My goal will be to continue to work on my game so I can confidently play the big course by the end of the summer.
